Why We Advocate Education
EDUCATION TRANSFORMS LIVES. We believe that education is an important component of affecting change, not only in the economic status of people, but in the growth and development of communities. Education plays an essential part in the reconstruction of the country especially after going through two civil wars (1980–2003) and the Ebola epidemic (2014-2015) when the entire educational system was severely crippled.
For most children in Liberia, education represents one of the only ways to break out of a life of poverty. Across the country, thousands of families currently subsist on less than $1.25 a day. Only those who can read, write, and do math can hope to overcome the deep clutches of impoverishment.
However, in the educational arena, there is much more than just job skills for the future. It’s playing an increasingly vital role in helping children protect themselves against diseases that can ravage poor communities. Simple information on day-to-day hygiene and prevention saves lives and keeps families together.
An education builds confidence, cohesiveness, and community. Educated children are less likely to become victims of violence and abuse. They are more likely to invest in improving their community when they become adults.
The children today are tomorrow’s future leaders of the country. And we at the AGAPE LOVE SCHOOL OF DISCIPLESHIP believe that a school’s ultimate purpose should be to equip these children to understand the truth about life, the world, and their place in it. A solid education coupled with wholesome and strong Christian morals and values, are the key to making a difference. In accomplishing this, we endeavor to equip our students to recognize the Lordship of Christ in all subject areas of learning, and to respond to obedience to His call for us to be transforming influences in society.
In a final word, let me stress that not only does a school shape a child’s mind, but it also cannot ignore the impact that an education has on the heart of a child.
Christian schools do not only teach information, but they also seek to educate the emotions and influence the actions of a child’s life.
